The Villa

The Villa

Villa Ricci placeholder

Villa Ricci was built in the 1870s by Augusto Ricci, a royal official born in Faenza who, during his activity in nineteenth-century Apulia, chose to settle permanently in the Ostuni valley and build his country residence here.

The structure was built with local stone quarried directly on site, a detail that ties it deeply to the rural landscape of Apulia and to the area's historic building techniques. Even the long entrance avenue, which actually covers a large cistern designed to collect water for irrigating the vineyards, tells of a way of inhabiting the place in which architecture and agriculture coincided.

After several historical passages, the villa came into the ownership of Adriano Raffaele Anglani, great-grandson of Augusto Ricci. Its historical and architectural value was formally recognised by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities with the decree of 23 March 2000, while since 2022 an important recovery and restoration project supported by the PNRR has been under way.
